As Kenya’s political opposition reorganizes around new personalities and alliances, a deeper problem remains largely unaddressed: the country’s economic debate is being driven by fundamentally flawed assumptions about debt, development, and the role of the state. Amid worsening poverty, hunger, housing deficits, and financial insecurity, many leaders continue promoting neoliberal ideas that neither understand nor confront the structural realities of Kenya’s economy.
